I had worked closely with him in the past and had been in recent communication with him and he had (as usual) placed a lot of activist work on his own plate and was planning on how to carry it off and still have time for his own work. Dale was a tireless worker for the RFO as an advocate the firearms community and as an active member of the Reform/CA/CPC. Many may not know of Dale's accomplishments as he was very quiet and unassuming about his role as an RFO advocate. Dale was instrumental in Alberta's court challenge to C-68 and also sponsored Ted Morton's work on charter challenges to the FA. As well, he was instrumental in getting Alberta's personal property protection act passed, getting regional councils to denounce enforcement of C-68 and was working with Bob Heath on a provincial heritage hunting act to protect Alberta's hunters from political extinction. He was a man who did a lot for the RFC but never sought accolades or income from it, he just quietly went about getting things done and keeping the RFOA informed. Shortly before Dale passed on he told me he had managed to get some great personal gratification this fall from the 2 things he had passion for....getting his farm work done and having enough time left to put in a good hunting season. He was an unpretentious and humble man with uncommon passion for what he believed in. Dale was an inspiration to me and I will miss him. I'm left to wonder who will take the burden of work he placed on his own plate. |
